Alon Liel
Dr. Alon Liel served as the Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Economy and Planning and of its Ministry for Foreign Affairs. He was the first Israeli ambassador to democratic South Africa.

Alon serves on the Steering Committee of the Policy Working Group (PWG), an Israeli organization advocating for resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of two states. He serves on the Board of Ir Amim and the Advisory Council of B’Tselem. He initiated a 2014 diplomatic campaign to advance European recognition of the State of Palestine, which resumed its activities in 2024.
He is the author of seven books, including the recent Swords to Ploughshares (Hebrew) about the urgent need to return to peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine.
